  • Go! Honor Our Soldiers

    BrothersinArms

Copy of my post at GSTF today:

Today in the good ol’ USofA we’re celebrating our soldiers.  Past, present and (unfortunately) future warriors who have given their lives to the service of their country.

What I wish, what I truly wish — being the dreamer that I am — is that we could lay down our weapons in all countries, agree to disagree and stop murdering each other.

What I wish, what I truly wish — being the dreamer that I am — is that we will someday have a world wide Memorial Day, in honor of the men, women and children all over the globe who have suffered in the name of War, and that a world wide picnic of vast proportions (including kosher all beef hot dogs, tofu hot dogs and veggie burgers for our discerning guests) would be arranged and we would be ashamed, and saddened by our actions of the past; joyous for our humanity and developed sense of democracy.

What kind of dreamer are you?

Title:  Up My Ante, Will Ya, Please

I would be the first to vote for a reduction of the armed forces.  Note, I did not say I would right just now vote for a complete eradication of the army ... just reduce it ... but reduce it by a whopper.  I was tickled pink when we pared down the South Korean U.S. forces by several thousand in 2003.  I doubt any of my Americano Friends noticed it.  I don't mind being less protected, more vulnerable to North Korea's 1.2 million man army.

I utterly agree with the photo above; death is not the worst evil.  If my family and I have to take an early flight to heaven just because Kim Jong Il and his mighty minions decide we need to be wasted with one of his apartment-seeking-missiles, well, so be it.  I still was tickled pink when they reduced the U.S. defense here.  Do you know that we were paying 15 billion dollars a year to support the defense here on the Korean peninsula at that time?  What a huge subsidy!   Once you know that, it's easier to see why the South Korean economy does so well, just keeps right on humming ... and the American economy stumbles.

So, I think nearly everyone agrees with me that we would be afraid to entirely get rid of the army, so let's pose this question, "How much of a reduction would you vote for?"  You know if you take away their toys, they can't play so much.  That's the principle my wife and I operate on.  Our house is full of toys.  It's as if they just keep multiplying.  So, we stopped buying them a couple of years ago, and my wife sweeps them to the center of the house and throws them away every second or third day.  Yes, I reach in a rescue a few from time to time, but you get the picture.  We're gradually beginning to get a bit more walking space, or so it seems to my wildly optimistic demeanor.

So, I suggest a 50% reduction, for starters.  Who will match me and up the ante, so to speak?

I dream for so many things.....
...to be around for as long as possible to see my beautiful son through life.
...to be the best teacher and mentor I can be, to influence children.
...to be the best person I can be and help others when I can.
...for some form of happiness or, at least, for a life that can mask unhappiness.
...to be loved unconditionally and without restraint every single day.
...for life to be exceptionally good for Sam's birth parents.
...for health and happiness for my family and friends.
...for strength, for determination, for comfort, for enjoyment, for life to be free of strife.
    ...for compassion for children worldwide.
    ...for war to end.

That's probably much more than you were looking for in a response, but it's where my head is tonight.
